Guidelines: Nearly half of Americans have high blood pressure

The two leaders of heart disease research essentially lowered the old recommendation – 140 over 90 – by 10 points.

The change means more people will be diagnosed with high blood pressure. Under the current guidelines, about a third of the adults in the United States fall into that category. The new recommendations will sweep nearly half of U.S. adults into a higher-risk category.
