1. Isopure Original

Isopure’s motto is “protein so pure you can’t see it,” and while we’re not one to fall for marketing hype, the company actually accomplishes this with a protein-packed drink that has a texture so smooth it could be juice. In fact, the drink’s only flavor, Alpine Punch, tastes basically like juice—but juice with a whopping 40 grams of whey protein and 25 grams of carbs in every 20-ounce bottle. But since the shake has only 260 calories and no fiber or fat, pair it with ½ an avocado or handful of nuts for a complete meal.

2. Orgain Organic Nutritional Shakes

If you’re looking for an all-organic shake that you can get on the go, look no further than Orgain. All four flavors—creamy chocolate fudge, sweet vanilla bean, strawberries and cream, and iced café mocha—pack 16 grams of protein from grass-fed whey and casein powder. Each 11-ounce shake has only 255 calories, 7 grams fat, and 2 grams fiber, so you’ll need to supplement with a handful of nuts, some sliced avocado, or yogurt with fruit.

3. EAS Myoplex Original Shake

Designed as a postworkout pick-me-up, this shake from EAS does double duty as a meal replacement when you’re tight on time, delivering an incredible 42 grams of protein from a mixture of whey and pea powders, along with 300 calories in every 17-ounce carton—the drink also has enough carbs and fat to keep you satisfied until life slows down.

4. CalNaturale Svelte Protein Shakes

What we like about CalNaturale Svelte Protein Shakes: They’re low in sugar; made with organic, non-GMO soy protein; and come in awesome flavors like banana crème, cappuccino, and spiced chai, along with the standard chocolate and French vanilla. Each 11-ounce bottle has only 180 calories and 11 grams of protein, so save these drinks for when you can pair them with something small, like two hard-boiled eggs or ½ cup cottage cheese with fruit, to turn them into a complete meal.

5. Ensure Copycat

While there’s nothing wrong with drinking Ensure in a pinch, the popular meal-supplement line doesn’t have enough protein (only 9 grams per 8-ounce bottle) to make it a complete meal. Instead, Johns Hopkins nutritionist Joshua Nachman likes to make his own Ensure copycat from almond milk, almond butter, and protein powder. His recipe delivers a whopping 21 grams of protein, along with 526 calories and 43 grams of fat in every 8-ounce glass, when made with Vega Protein and Greens powder.

  • ½ c almond milk
  • ½ c coconut milk
  • 2 Tbsp almond butter
  • 1-2 Tbsp honey
  • 1 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 Tbsp Vega or whey protein powder

Blend all of the above and serve. Makes 1 serving.

6. Peanut Butter Banana Power Breakfast

Greek yogurt and peanut butter deliver 25 grams of protein, along with 8.5 grams of fat and 6 grams of fiber, in every 370-calorie serving of this power smoothie that’s perfect for your morning meal.

1 medium banana
½ c fat-free plain Greek yogurt
1 c fat-free milk
1 Tbsp cocoa powder
1 Tbsp natural peanut butter
6 ice cubes

7 oz 2% Greek yogurt
1 c ice cubes
¼ c frozen sliced banana
2 Tbsp almond butter
1 Tbsp molasses
1 tsp grated ginger
¼ tsp cinnamon
⅛ tsp each nutmeg and cardamom

Keto Diet After Gallbladder Surgery Removal

If you are still wondering if ketosis is possible, safe and healthy for someone without a gallbladder, the answer is yes. The gallbladder is an organ that aids in the digestion of fatty foods by storing up bile reserves. Bile is generated in the liver and carried to the gallbladder via the bile ducts.

Without a gallbladder you will not be able to absorb fat soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids as you could when producing more bile and lipase.

Having no gallbladder does not mean that you cannot eat keto. In fact there has been some evidence that the bile duct (which is the pathway from the gallbladder to the intestine) is able to actually create its own little gallbladder over time. As your body doesn’t have a gallbladder it makes do with what it does have and as your body begins to recover after the surgery, you may find your fat tolerance is also increasing.

There are many things you can do to help the process, which doesn’t include cutting fat from your diet…

  • Consume more medium chain fatty acids like MCT Oil or Coconut Oil because they are often easier to break down that longer chain fats.
  • Eat leaner cuts of meat and add coconut oil to it, at least until your body becomes more tolerant to fats.
  • Avoid The Following Fats:
    • Olive Oil in excessive amounts – cooking is fine, salad dressing not.
    • Any other vegetable oils that are liquid at room temperature.
    • Hydrogenated fats.
    • Soybeans or soy products.
    • Margarine or fake butter products.
  • Consume the Following Fats:
    • Real butter, ghee, coconut oil, palm kernel oil or lard.
    • Free Range Eggs from happy chickens.
    • Grass Fed Beef.
    • Pork from happy pigs.
    • Raw cows milk or goats milk.
    • Cheese and Yogurt.
    • Fish Oil Supplements.
  • Start off slow with keto and gradually add more and more as you go.
  • Eat smaller meals.
  • Take Ox Bile Supplements and/or digestive enzymes to help digest those fats. When Ox bile is taken with a meal it provides a highly concentrated source of bile which takes the place of the bile that you would have secreted had you had a gallbladder.

Keto Diet After Gastric Sleeve

Good evening everyone, I’ve been searching for others who’ve had the VSG (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) or Gastric Sleeve surgery who have also tried losing weight using a Keto diet. Anyone out there with this experience?

I’m interested in trying it, but also wary because my bariatric doctor is extremely against any diet with fat in it at all, he wants me to keep every day under 20 grams of fat.

I’ve been doing good so far with that, keeping under 1200 cals and 20g of fat per day, and since the surgery I’ve lost 120lbs.

However, my husband is on the Keto diet and is doing well, but our grocery shopping is on the extreme opposite ends and often our bill will be higher.

It would be nice to be able to eat along with my husband the same/similar foods and still keep up with the weight loss. Since I cannot eat very much, I can see keeping under 1200 cals per day, but the fat content would go through the window.

Any advice? Anyone else with the same or similar surgery have success with Keto?

Keto Diet After Hcg

Even though the HCG diet limits both carbohydrates and calories to a great extent, hunger is dramatically reduced compared to other diets. The main reason why hunger is limited is because of the effect of the HCG hormone, and the body’s consistent state of ketosis. The hormone has a few days to go into effect, because on the HCG diet you gorge on high fat foods for the first two to three days. This gorging allows the body to start to respond to the hormone, and by the time the VLCD has started the body is in the most optimal state to enter its fat burning or ketogenic state. The gorging or loading phase is necessary for hunger to be reduced on the diet, and the first seven days of the diet are generally the hardest. After the first seven days the body has stabilized into its ketogenic state. Although symptoms of the HCG diet are usually very mild and minimal, there are some symptoms that may arise as the body transitions to a ketogenic state such as fatigue, cramps, headaches, dizziness, nausea, thirst, and some other symptoms. These symptoms will usually wear off within a few days or less if they occur at all.

Ketosis symptoms are much milder on the HCG diet

However, on the HCG diet ketosis symptoms are milder than other diets for a few reasons. The body has a higher level of carbohydrate intake than other diets, which makes the ketogenic state milder and less difficult to tolerate. Also, the loading phase makes the drop to the low calorie level much easier. Other diets will restrict carbohydrates so much that there is a rough transition to the low calorie level, however the HCG diet does not have reduce carbohydrates as extensively as other diets. The HCG hormone also makes ketosis more efficient and burns up to 2,000 calories per day, which makes the diet much more tolerable and less symptomatic than other diets. The HCG diet can even be used by people who have active lifestyles or jobs where they have to move around often. Ketogenic diets like the HCG diet are shown to be safe and effective at reducing body fat, and the HCG diet is one of the most tolerable and effective ketogenic diets. With the HCG diet you don’t need to know too much about how ketosis works or worry about your dietary choices or limiting carbohydrates, as the proper portion sizes, food choices and calorie limits have been carefully selected for the diet for optimal fat metabolism. The ketogenic fat burning metabolic state that occurs on the HCG diet can result in rapid fat loss up to 40 pounds or more over a six week period of time, and it is one of the fastest and most effective ways to lose weight safely.

Keto Diet After Surgery

Keto Diet After Vsg

How long has it been since your VSG? If you are only 1-1.5 yrs post op I would seriously reconsider going keto. The amount of fat you need to eat on keto will require more space/capacity than you’re pouch can hold now. Even if it’s all in hidden oils in fat bombs, it will either require more space, or just make you feel ill and icky. I’m on keto now and could not eat this much fat when I was less than two years out. Yuck!

I had VSG in Oct 2011. It worked and I lost loads, but as old habits started to creep back in (read: sugar relapse) I started to notice a little weight gain. No way did I go through that surgery for nothing, so I’m on a good eating plan again! But at almost 3 yrs out my pouch is slightly larger than it was post surgery, and I can tolerate heavier and richer foods. If you follow a true keto plan I think you might find it tough to eat the adequate amounts of fats early on.

Keto Diet Before And After 30 Days

Purpose: gain understanding of experience of being on ketogenic diet, helps me give advice to those looking for new diets, improve skin complexion, curiosity

Objective measurement: decrease body fat percentage, retain strength in the gym, visual indicator of no lost muscle mass (to best of my ability)

Resource and Motivation: and books revolving around the negative impact sugar has on our health

Process: Four meals per day, centered around working out. These four meals would consist of three big protein packed meals and a snack of peanuts. I would continue working out after work. My workouts would be full body taking place on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

What I ate: Bodyweight in protein (I’m around 160 pounds), High fat (~ 70% of daily calories), and low carbs (preferably less than 50g / day and ~ 10% of daily calories).

Outcome: I fully believe Ketogenic Diet to be the most effective plan to lose weight. Cutting out sugar and carbs, while also working out, led to instant weight loss. I think very highly of the ketogenic diet.

Keto Diet Before And After Bodybuilding

The ketogenic diet is a way to trick your body into thinking it’s in starvation mode while you’re still consuming enough calories from protein and fat to provide satiety and protect your muscle mass from being used as fuel. The ketogenic diet is very similar to the Atkins Diet, with perhaps the biggest difference being that on Atkins you don’t pee on ketone strips to determine if you’re in ketosis. This is the condition in which your body is releasing stored fat to fuel activity, and ketone bodies are present in your urine, providing a measurable indication that you are in this state.

Meat, cheese, oils, fish, eggs, very low-carb protein products.

Processed foods, sugars, grains, and even vegetables and fruits.

You can’t eat carbs and stay in ketosis, making this a fairly restrictive diet. During the initial stages, it’s best to cut even fruits and vegetables to make sure your carb intake is minimal and you reach ketosis as quickly as possible. And you have to pee on ketone strips to check your urine for ketones. Often people develop an odd breath odor when they enter ketosis.

You can consume your regular amount of calories (or slightly fewer), so you’re not likely to suffer from hunger. Add fibrous vegetables (broccoli, spinach, other greens) once you reach ketosis. Recently, some endurance athletes have started following a ketogenic diet program, reporting that it allows them to perform extreme events without “bonking” because they have a ready supply of body fat, and their bodies are no longer dependent on carbs to fuel activity. This may translate to bodybuilders training with intensity to prepare for a contest.

The ketogenic diet is among the fastest fat-loss diets available, because you can eat just about as much as you want throughout the day so long as you stick to the foods on the program. Some professional bodybuilders use ketosis as their gauge to determine the success of their diet.

You can include plenty of non-carb dairy, but you need to cut out milk for its lactose. Also, take in low-carb protein shakes throughout the day.

Bacon, eggs

Cheddar cheese, no-carb deli meat

Salmon, avocado (or chicken and mayo)

Whey protein, creatine, BCAAs, glutamine

Whey protein, creatine, BCAAs, glutamine

Flank steak, spinach with olive oil

Boiled eggs, turkey breast (or casein protein)
